Calypso Cascade Waterfall, Rocky Mountain National Park

Calypso Cascade Waterfall in Rocky Mountain National park is one of my all time favorite hikes.  I’ve photographed it at least a hundred times trying to articulate the magic that it brings. A moment of constant motion frozen in time. But here, in this gouache painting, I think I achieved more than my camera could. Hikers pause on the bridge, small against nature’s flow. The blues and greens hum with quiet energy, inviting you to remember the sound of rushing water, the cool mist on skin, even the little flowers the peak out from the spots of sun coming through the trees. Perhaps this is what draws us to art–allowing space for more magic. Perhaps this is what draws us to waterfalls—the reminder that beauty emerges from letting things fall.

A piece for mountain lovers, hikers, and anyone who finds peace in flowing water.
