I’m not usually one for gift guides. Personally, I love to find something unique and unexpected as a gift for someone. That usually happens when I’m in a shop and stumble upon something that makes me think of someone (and is in my budget). I for sure do not like gift lists from people. In most cases, people often get the things they know they want as soon as they want them. Having Amazon and Target make that real easy. However, this holiday season I especially want to focus on the small businesses.

Why Support Small Business

It’s easy to want to make things simple and order all your gifts on Amazon and get the free shipping on top of it. Often these gifts are mass produced (hence why they’re affordable) and are made by larger companies. (There are some small businesses on Amazon, but you need to do your homework to find them).

Between the competing with large chain stores, the cost of goods and the rising cost of rent, small businesses are feeling the hurt. These small shops often sell things you can’t find anywhere else, they curate goods to go together or to create an experience for you. They also have invested their heart and souls into these small shops hoping to touch others with the products they offer. It’s much more than consumerism, they want to provide quality, value, and an experience while they make enough to pay the bills and support their own families.

Your dollars are a vote for the businesses you love and vote to support those who aren’t just in it for the money, but for so much more. For example I don’t just sell art, I want to add color, whimsy, and some magic to as many homes as I can. I want to remind people to slow down and witness the beauty that’s all around them. Sure, selling my art is great so that I can pay for all the things that it costs to own a business and hopefully have extra to support my family, but I’ll be honest when I say that my marketing business pays most of the bills, my art is my passion and the legacy I want to leave on the world. Your support encourages me to keep creating these stories and to spread the magic I hold dear.
