The Invisible World of Mothers: Artwork To Celebrate Motherhood
There’s an entire world that exists just beneath the surface—one filled with tiny hands grasping, whispered lullabies, and the quiet strength of women who keep everything running. This is the invisible world of mothers. A world often unseen, unappreciated, yet entirely essential. And it’s this world that inspired my latest series of paintings on motherhood.
Motherhood is a paradox. It’s both soft and fierce, beautiful and exhausting, deeply fulfilling and yet completely overlooked. While we celebrate mothers during pregnancy (at least in my experience), the moment the baby arrives, society shifts its focus. We love the idea of children, but we don’t always love their reality—the mess, the noise, the ever-present needs. We say we value families, but have you ever tried to find a changing table in a public men’s restroom? Spaces for children to simply be are few and far between. We expect them to sit still, be quiet, and conform, even though everything about childhood is meant to be expansive, curious, and free.
This series of paintings is a note to the quiet, magical moments of motherhood. The ones that often go unseen but are the most profound. The moments that make the sleepless nights, the exhaustion, and the self-doubt all worth it.

Motherhood: Coffee
This painting captures the simple magic of everyday rituals—a mother savoring a cup of coffee, a tiny hand tugging at her sleeve. It’s a reminder that even in the chaos, there’s beauty in slowing down. And if you look closely, you might just spot a little Modern Magic wallpaper making a surprise appearance. Can you find it?

Motherhood: Bedtime Routine
Reading together is more than just turning pages. It’s opening doorways, sparking imaginations, and spinning entire galaxies out of words. This painting captures the way storytelling weaves love and wonder into the everyday—because when we read together, we dream together.

Motherhood: Matrescence
The journey into motherhood isn’t a destination—it’s a transformation. As Dr. Aurélie Athan writes in Matrescence, “Motherhood is not a state of being but a journey of becoming.” This piece captures the sacred bond of early motherhood, where time slows and every touch is a reminder of the life you created. Set against a vibrant turquoise background, the warmth of her pink dress and the softness of her embrace make this a piece filled with love, strength, and the beauty of new beginnings.

Motherhood: Crawling
A mother on the floor, arms open, encouraging her little one to take on the world—one tiny crawl at a time. The soft glow of morning (or maybe the hush of late night) wraps the scene in warmth, with cozy pajamas, dim lighting, and a diaper-clad baby ready for adventure. Look closely, and you’ll spot a Modern Magic wallpaper gracing the walls, adding an extra layer of charm to this tender moment.

The Mother Archetype
She is not just a caretaker; she is a creator, a protector, a force of nature. Society may try to make her soft and small, but she is anything but. She is powerful, fierce, beautiful, and deeply feeling. This painting is a tribute to the mother in all of us—the part that holds space, creates, loves fiercely, and weeps freely. Whether you are a mother to children, to ideas, to dreams, or to the people in your life, this piece is a reminder of the power you hold within. The Mother is not to be overlooked. She is to be reckoned with.
Midnight Moments
Ah, the most beautiful and brutal time of day. When the world is asleep, but you are very much awake—feeding, rocking, soothing. It’s lonely, exhausting, and yet somehow, it holds its own kind of magic. Midnight moments are when we are at our most raw, most vulnerable, and most deeply connected.

The Mother Artist
“To be a mother is to be interrupted, and to be an artist is to be interrupted. But the mother-artist is never just interrupted—she is torn in two.” – Catherine Ricketts, Mother Artist
This painting is a tribute to every woman who has wrestled with the impossible balance of nurturing both a child and a creative life. Motherhood demands everything, yet the artist within us still lingers, waiting to be seen, to be heard, to create.
As a Mother Artist myself, I know the struggle intimately—the stolen moments of creativity between nap times, the frustration of half-finished ideas, the overwhelm of choosing art over laundry. But I also know this: you are still creative. You are still an artist.

Making the Invisible Visible
Motherhood isn’t easy. It’s lonely, tiresome, and often without thanks. But when we see the magic in these moments—the quiet, the chaos, the deep, unshakable love—we remember why we do it.
So, to the mothers out there: You are seen. You are appreciated. Your work is not invisible. And even if the world doesn’t always make space for you, I hope these paintings do.
