Pumpkin Patch
Story Behind The Art
9x12 soft pastel on paper
What is is about pumpkins in the fall? The harvest, their reminder of a season that slower and the steps into the winter incubation. In the Victorian era, pumpkins were a symbol of prosperity and nostalgia. A reminder of the past, like carved pumpkins on halloween. When people started to move to cities in the Industrial revolution, pumpkins became a yearly reminder of where they came from and the farm life many were raised on.
In Celtic traditions, the carved pumpkin was use to ward off spirits using scary faces to ward off wandering spirits.
But the density, size and shape of a pumpkin is the key symbol for grounding and prosperity.
Whatever draws you to this harvest, know that this painting is hear to slow you down and ground you.
Care
To ensure the longevity of your piece please frame right away. Natural light and exposure to air or water are the enemy of artwork. A glass frame (as opposed to plastic) is always preferred. Choose a spot on the wall out of direct sunlight. For original artworks I always suggest having them framed by a professional framer for a sealed back that further portects your artwork.
