We talked on the phone forever, as old best friends do. Sharing the stories of life, being stuck at home, and our dreams of the future. In a small, soft voice she shared with me her secret. She wanted to create something. She wanted to start something new. A jewelry line that would support the causes she loved most. “Is this even a good idea?”, she asked desperately on the phone. She’s still in school with no background in business, no idea what she was doing, but a spark that was lit with a craft project she did to pass the time. Without hesitation, I said to her “YES!”
While there are a million jewelry lines out there, there is no one who will bring to the table what she can. And the same is true for you. The thing the world is missing most is your voice.
We can stop ourselves from going after our wildest dreams or even just a small side project we don’t even plan to grow. We stop ourselves from creativity and passion because we think, who am I to do this? Who am I to make a statement that I have any idea that I know what I’m doing? My answer? Who else?
The thing that sets any business apart is the voice that created it. A quality product is mandatory but many people sell almost the exact same product. What we need in this world is your voice. We want to hear the thoughts that fill that mind. To know the creator behind the creation. It isn’t just about having a beautiful thing to sell, we want to know the story behind it. Because life and history are built on stories and as humans, we connect with them.
Whatever crazy idea you have growing in your mind, a business, a project, an event, I’m giving you the permission to go after it. Find inspiration. Create something new. Find yourself in a project you never knew you wanted. Learn along the way. Ask questions. Grow. This is the magic of the world we live in. The root of the American dream.
If there is still doubt hiding inside of you of whether you should start I offer you this quote to put on your mirror.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

You, my dear, were born to create something new. The fire blazing inside of you with curiosity and wonder is living proof of it. Start now. Make the thing that sits inside your head because your voice matters and the world isn’t complete without it.
