The hot Summer sun hitting your skin. The sound of kids building in anticipation as they know that their Friday treat is coming. Friends you can’t help but laugh with while music plays in the background. Yeah, you’d never know that we were in the middle of a pandemic. Instead, it felt more like a glimpse of Summer camp.
For 6-weeks this Summer I joined the amazing team at Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt to photograph them as they gave free ice cream to the Boys and Girls clubs of Denver. Each week a new club, each week the same sugar filled smiles with laughs from both the Yasso team and the boys and girls getting an extra special Friday treat.
You could say that these days were for the kids, but with everything that’s been going on in the world, I honestly think they were just as much for us. The time outside, with humans, and seeing the way kids interact with each other, brought us all back to the real world. Even while baking in the sun, getting to celebrate Summer with these kids and be reminded of life’s little moments was a grounding experience.
Some might say that Yasso was doing all the giving on those Friday; coming out with a team of happy faces ready to give these kids a party and load them up with Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt. But in reality, those kids were the ones giving back to us. The Yasso team and myself, we were just excited to get a little dose of what life was like before all the chaos happened. That and a Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt for myself!
