It’s interesting how the season of slow has become the “busiest time of the year.” From visiting with friends and family to getting organized for the year end in our businesses and our life. December went from being the month of restoration after a full harvest to being one more month filled with work, to-do lists, and the pressure to have it all together.
Now that the holidays are done and we’re fully in the winter season I’m ready to surrender. To let go of my guard I’ve had up all season (all my life) feeling like there was a way to do it right and instead release into the bliss that is not holding control (big words from a control freak.)
Surrender keeps showing her face to me in all areas of my life.
I’m being asked to surrender into the unknown as I embark on building a new business focused on art and the slower more feminine lifestyle that brings with it. Without a plan (not that my plans have ever really worked out) I’m walking into creating a brand on my own terms, with art that speaks to me, and hopefully to you, and a message that I know I’ve been wanting to hear for years, and I think you have too –it’s okay to slow down. It’s okay to be feminine and embrace everything that that means.
I’ve been surrendering into discomfort and pain for the last few years as I finally deal with lifelong digestive issues, painful periods, and skin issues that have made me feel not only self-conscious but genuinely unattractive. I’m surrendering to what my body has to teach me and for once I’m listening to her, even after years of being taught by society and the church that the last thing I should do is listen to my body.
Surrender might look different for you.
It might be choosing to take an hour off a week to surrender to the rest that you so desperately need. It might be surrendering to your anxiety and truly feeling what’s going inside of you. Or perhaps its surrendering to the call inside of you that tells you you’re ready for a change, in career, in lifestyle, in where you live, or in how you allow others to treat you.
Create a space in your home that invites you to surrender. Whether it’s a corner of a room in your favorite chair, your bedroom, a meditation room, or any other space. Add soothing wallpaper that inspires calm, or artwork that reminds you of the magic of the everyday. This space should feel safe and soothing so that you can be your full self and let go.
In these winter days that are still cold and short, where energy runs low and slow movements are calling to you, it’s time to surrender. Let down your guard, embrace what the divine is trying to tell you, and relax into what is. You’ll be amazed at the magic you find in those moments of surrender. How the world opens up to you.
