Self-improvement, self-care, and rest are all things I’m passionate about. I talk about it a lot because I don’t think it’s talked about enough, AND I’m not always great at it myself.
These last few weeks with the winter blues and too many things on my to-do list have left me feeling exhausted and overwhelmed (A feeling I’m sure I’m not alone in.) We often don’t realize it until it’s too late and we’re just trying to keep our heads above water.
You see, I’ve been signing on new clients that I love and am so excited about. Which is a great thing. But when you add my creative projects, home projects, self-care needs, and community on top of that, things get heavy.
I don’t share this to complain (although getting it off my chest helps a bit). I share it to say that balance is a constant act. We won’t always do it right. We’ll find ourselves out of balance and feeling overwhelmed and have to go back to the drawing board to see where we can get level-headed again.
So I’m making a list. A list of every single task that’s taking up space in my mind, big or small. Then the small ones I can accomplish in less than 5-minutes I’m crossing off today. The rest will have to be reevaluated–do they need to be done this month? Is this a project that I should take on right now? Is there someone that can do take this off my plate?
I come back to my breathing. I come back to my foundations–sleep, diet, movement. I come back to my values. What’s aligning, what’s not?
And then I start again.
Balance is a never-ending journey, just like this life. There is no permanent destination, just a few spots along the way that feel so truly aligned with who you are. And you’ll do all that you can to reach those spots again.
Here’s to starting again.
